Other Design Projects

I think I am happiest when I am making something better or prettier or more functional. Below are some brief overviews of some designs I have done in the last couple of years. There are some cars, some interior projects, and some random projects, too. I've included links where applicable; they'll open in a new window or tab.

  • 1971 Ford LTD Brougham

1971 Ford LTD Brougham 429 Super Cobra Jet Police Interceptor I bought for my birthday ten years ago... my Tommy Lee took my design and made it really SING! There are ghost stars all up and down both sides of the car (150 per side!) but they're so hard to photograph unless the car's in full sun...

  • MCM Bedroom Project

Getting rid of yucky old paneling and giving the bedroom a cool, atomic, retro, 1950s design!

  • 1967 Datsun Fairlady Roadster

CMDS office redesign: I've been wanting to redesign and redcorate the office pretty much since we finished building the little room when we moved into the house, but I finally found the time and saved the money to do it!

  • 1967 Datsun Fairlady Roadster

1967 Datsun/Nissan Fairlady Roadster 1600: My auto painter husband, Tommy Lee, is a master, and he makes my ideas look AWESOME. For this one, we picked it up in a garage in Spokane, buried in its own parts, a shell of itself.. and brought it to showroom quality with an unusual design. It's for sale, folks!

  • 1977 Ford Ranchero GT Brougham

1977 Ford Ranchero GT Brougham: We bought this one from a friend of a friend and then stripped off the faded paint, the cracking, white vinyl stickers, and repainted it the original, GORGEOUS, emerald green metallic, but painted on the GT stripes in a bright yellow-green. You wouldn't think it would work, but it totally does!

  • 1966 IH Metro Mite

1966 International Harvester Mini Metro postal van: We got this one in a trade. I wanted to make it clean and ready for a business to put their graphics on and use for in-town deliveries. We cleaned it up!

  • 1967 Ford Thunderbird

1967 Ford Thunderbird Tudor Landau: We picked this one up for a song. It ran, drove, and the interior was perfect, so we just did the body work and painted her black. I affectionately named this one Stella. We sold it in order to buy the house.

  • 1977 Ford Pickup

1977 Ford F-150 short bed pickup: Bought this from a friend and finished it up. I came into this project late, and just designed the stripes.

  • Kitchen Remodel

Kitchen Remodel: When we bought the house, it had a typical late 1970s kitchen with some nice appliances... but when I got a deal on new stainless steel appliances, we decided to move up the remodeling plans. We installed counter-to-ceiling tile vertically (except across the upper cabinet trim), repainted all the cabinets in a color called "Angel Food," trimmed everything in chrome paint, added chrome Sputnik star burst vinyls to the cabinet fronts, changed out (or eliminated) hardware, and painted other doors and recesses in red. I LOVE IT!

  • Living Room Redecorating

Living Room Redecorating: Again, 1970s paneling, carpet... blech... so, I painted the paneling a color called "Daffodil" (but it's a white), pinstriped the paneling in blue, changed the window coverings, ripped out the carpet and put down hardwood laminate (awesome stuff!), and decorated in MCM style. The house is currently bedecked in Christmas stuff with my handmade Sputniks.

  • Checkerboard Patio

Checkerboard Patio: Got the concrete squares for a steal on Craigslist and the family and I put this together!

  • Rehabbed Wringer Washing Machines

Rehabbed Wringer Washing Machines: These wringer washing machines were in the woods on the property, so we dug them our, painted them, and made them into planters! I put lots of white petunias in them every year, so it looks like soap bubbles coming out of the top!

  • Nook Tablet Case

Nook Tablet Case: Decided I wanted a case for my Nook, but didn't like any of the pre-made ones you can buy. So... I made one.

  • Plushie Monsters

Plushie Monsters: Made a set of plushie monsters out of quilting material for each of my daughters.

  • Wooden iPhone Case Pyrography

Pyrography - Wooden iPhone 4s Case: I wanted an unusual case for my phone, so I bought a bamboo case on Amazon and then burned a picture of my 1971 Ford LTD Brougham into it... along with some stars and a moon.
