Gaelic Dictionary

Below is a list of Gaelic words and phrases that I have collected. Most come from my very worn copy of Hippocrene's Practical Dictionary of Gaelic-English/English-Gaelic (ISBN # 0-7818-0789-1). Please note a couple of things before beginning: 1.) I do not speak Gaelic. 2.) I do not read Gaelic very well, therefore, I have no idea how most of this is pronounced. 3.) I have never heard a native Gaelic speaker. 4.) These are written with their accent marks, etc. to the best of my knowledge. If there is a mistake... well, sorry. I copied it that way from somewhere.

To use this list properly, you'll need to know my legend. The Gaelic word or phrase is listed first. Inside parentheses is the English translation, and, if there is more than one word inside the parentheses the following applies: if the words are not separated or are separated by a comma, then the Gaelic word means all of the English words listed there equally. If the English words in parentheses are separated by a semicolon or a slash, then the more common English translation is listed first, and are progressively less common until the end. Alongside the English translation, there may be letters inside squiggly brackets like these: {}. Things you may find there are: parts of speech (adjective=adj.; noun=n; etc.), frequency of usage, and among other things (the "other things" are pretty self-explanatory, or so I hope).

Please note that there is "shady" language in this list, and I am not responsible for whether or not you should be reading it. Use your own judgement, but you have been warned. That disclaimer over, all I have left to say is, ENJOY!
